5 out of 5 stars Excellent headset, excellent price
King Peeny

After having several of the cheap, flimsy official XBox 360 headsets break over the years, I finally decided to upgrade to a sturdier one. After doing a LOT of research, I decided to try out the new Gamecom X95 from Plantronics. While Turtle Beach offers excellent headsets, I found the prices a little too beyond my range, especially for the wireless ones (Turtle Beach X31, X41). I know Plantronics is new to this market, but from using their telephone headsets frequently at work, I knew they boasted very high quality. While an official, wired Xbox 360 headset will run you around $20, I managed to get these for $33 through Amazon's Warehouse Deals (with free shipping). If they were not to my satisfaction, I would have just returned them for a refund. To my delight, they have proven to be an outstanding headset. The sound quality is exceptional; I was surprised to see that it wasn't Dolby Surround Sound after listening to them. It's so good that you'd swear they were. There's a lot of bass, and you'll pick up on things you'd never hear just through your television. The setup was simple, although the instructions could have been a little more detailed. You just plug the audio outputs (red and white cables) from the XBox through the ones included with the adapter, pop in the batteries, plug into your controller, and you're good to go. Keep in mind the wireless is only the sound from the television; you still have to plug into the controller to chat. With that in mind, if you wanna save the batteries, you can leave the headset feed from the television off but still use the chat function without draining them. They are much more stylish and comfortable than your basic XBox 360 headset. The earphones are nicely padded, and I haven't noticed any discomfort with wearing them for a long period of time. A great advantage of these headphones is that you can mute your television while still receiving the volume input through the headphones, preventing others from being annoyed at the loudness. In that regard, they'd be excellent for watching DVDs or Netflix while not disturbing others. The mic can be shortened and tucked away under the left earpiece for convenience. Honestly, my only complaint is that the wire from the headset to the controller is a little bit short; for most intents and purposes, it's fine, but it could use a little more range. That's just getting nitpicky though. I was extremely fortunate to get them for so cheap. I would be willing to spend much more for a headset of this quality. Fortunately, you don't have to. For $59, this headset is a steal next to the more expensive alternatives. You won't regret it! Read more ›

4 out of 5 stars If you use HDMI to connect your Xbox you will need to buy an extra part!
P. M. Hawkins

Santa brought this for Christmas, but didn't bring the extra parts needed to make it work with our Xbox. I guess he thought that using an HDMI was a fairly standard way to connect your xbox, but apparently it's not. When I called the Plantronics support hotline, they looked but couldn't find a solution to make this work when connecting with an HDMI cable. They stated they don't normally get a lot of calls on this product.I'm just a mom, not a gamer or a technical expert. After researching on the internet, I determined the easiest way to make this work was to purchase an Xbox Audio Adaptor Gen RCA Audio Cable Adapter for XBOX 360 + Slim. Amazon sells them for around $5 plus shipping. They were out of stock when I needed it, and my son was anxious to get these working, so we went down to Best Buy and purchased one for $20. I sure would have loved if Plantronics would have included this piece in the box. After that, set-up was extremely simple. Plug the Audio Adaptor into the back of the Xbox. From the wireless transmitter, take the red and white cables and plug into the audio adaptor, along with the usb cable. Then simply take the pigtail and attach the headset to the controller. The result? Fabulous. As I write this, my son is singing at the top of his lungs to music I cannot hear! I no longer need to hear the friends who he is playing with online, in my living room, and no longer need to worry about them hearing conversations going on in the rest of the house!I'll let you read the other reviews regarding quality, etc, I just thought this info might be helpful to others. I tried them on during set-up and they sounded great. All-in-all an excellent purchase.

3 out of 5 stars Tolerable for the price

I purchased the Plantronics Gamecom X95 during Amazon's Thanksgiving week lighting deals. My review is reflected upon that purchase price (Approx $50).Over the past month I have the Plantronics Gamecom X95 extensively while playing various types of games (Call of Duty Black Ops II, Assassin Creed III, Forza, Max Payne 3, Madden 12 & Skyrim). For the price the Plantronics Gamecom X95 offers great sound isolation and game environment immersion this is noticeably apparent when listening to the soundtrack of Skyrim or hearing footsteps in COD. This headset offers thick and plush foam cushions on the ear cups and headbands. I do appreciate the no nonsense approach to it's control functionalities as well has its usage of batteries.Granted, one glaring objection I have is due to the static break up I hear when shifting my head around. This break up is quite noticeable when I am moving around my living room or shifting on my couch. For a gaming headset the ultimate objective is clarity, which I am not receiving from this headset. In addition I am not thrilled about the build quality of this headset. This is made out of thin plastic that is easily malleable but not sturdy, simple adjustments such as headband sizing does not stay in place when not on your head.At the price point in which I paid for the Plantronics Gamecom X95, I am happy. But If I was not in dire need for a headset or was not binge spender like myself, then I would suggest to wait. But if you do want to go ahead and purchase this the Plantronics Gamecom X95 works as advertised and a great entry level price.
