4 out of 5 stars A good mic, but not the best
jquach

So, after using this mic nearly every day for about a week now, I think that I can give a pretty good review for this mic. I had originally bought this mic after my Microsoft headset mic broke and because it looked cool. Many people will be comparing this to the COD MW throat mic and although I haven't ever used it, I can tell you what the differences are. The first is the earphone that goes into your ear. This throat mic uses a over the ear design meaning you have to put the cord around the back of your ear and the earbud goes into your ear upside down. The picture shows it being worn without putting it over your ear and although it is possible, it felt a little wierd and very noticeable in my ear the entire time I wore it. Also, these come with 3 pairs of rubber earbuds (s,m,l) whereas the MW one doesn't. The other difference is that these are adjustable. Many people complained that the MW throat mic was really uncomfortable because it was too small. I don't think that this throat mic solves that problem if you have a large neck, but if the MW mic was a little too small for you then this might help. The reason is that at the longest, the band only extends about a little more that a quarter of an inch on each side for a total exstention of half an inch. Another reviewer said that it has 4 settings, but he might been mistaken because it only has 3 (default, half extended, and fully extended). Lastly is the mic quality and sound. As I've said before, I haven't tried the MW mic so I cant really compare here, but I think that the quality of the mic is pretty good. I tried recording am audio message and my voice sounds pretty clear. I also switched from my turtle beach x41 headset for tue week that I had these and didn't tell my friends that I was using a new mic. After a week, I asked them if I sounded any different and they told me that they didn't even notice although sometimes the sound was kinda quiet. The audio that comes through earbud is really good as well and voices come through loud and clear. Now for the cons: sometimes my friends will tell me it sounds like I'm rubbing the mic. What causes this is that, when fully extended to fit my neck, the mic will stick to the skin on my neck when I get a little hot. To fix that, I only extend the mic halfway so that the section of the mic doest make contact with my skin. One other thing, you have to be careful if you're adjusting the mic while wearing it because it will pinch your skin. Other than that, the mic does what it's supposed to, but there are definitely some better mica our there. Read more ›

4 out of 5 stars Not bad at all...

I originally got this throat mic because I wanted a headset that would work well with my over-the-ear headphones that I use for sound. I had the Microsoft wireless headset, but I couldn't use it with my headphones. Anyway, the throat mic is a pretty good solution for me since I can just put the little earwig underneath my headphones. The voices sound completely clear on the earwig - more so than my Microsoft headset, for sure. Also, I typically have a fan running, and now I don't sound like I'm playing in a wind tunnel...The only complaint my friends have about the switch is that it can be difficult to clearly hear my S's with the throat mic, so I sometimes sound as if I have a little lisp. They can understand me just fine, though. The one time they mentioned I was hard to understand, I shifted the mic a little lower on my throat and it sounded fine again. I'm a little worried about Mad Catz durability, but so far the mic has exceeded my expectations. As far as size goes, I was really worried at first. I opened it up and it only went a little over halfway around my neck (my neck is 20-21"). However, as I mentioned, my friends can hear me just fine, so I guess it goes far enough. Also, it's comfortable enough even on a neck my size that I usually forget it's there. It's not perfect by any means, but it's not bad for what it is, and it's a good solution for someone like me who wants to use the nice headphones they already own instead of hemorrhaging money for a good compatible set of headphones w/mic. I'm happy...

works better for younger players that it fits their necks better. thick necks come of sounding muffled most of the time

3 out of 5 stars Decent but that's a long shot

I purchased two of these throat mics. One for me and one for my kid brother. They showed up pretty quickly, earlier than expected. Packaging was nice and tight. They look cool. Sound is decent, no horrible feed back, my friends can understand what I'm saying, I can hear them clearly..... However my brothers mic......mmm not so much. Had to send his back and it came back and this one worked. So honestly i think it's a 50/50 on this specific mic.

3 out of 5 stars Does the job, but is missing two important features.

I had the Mad Catz COD Throat Communicator for years and loved it. It eventually wore out and I could not find the same model again, so I gave the Gears of War 3 ones a try. It works well but is missing two important components that my COD had. It does not have a volume control or mute function.I find that the volume on this communicator is way too high. So much so that I can not put the earpiece in my ear otherwise the volume hurts, so I have it hang just outside my ear. I also miss the mute function. If you need to cough or sneeze quickly, it was nice being able to mute it so you don't sneeze in everybody's ears.It is a good product, but I wish they did not do away with those features.

This was very cool and is still. There are a couple of things to consider about this item though. One is that since it is on your throat, your voice is toned up a good bit, so if you yell, you kill anybody's ear who is in your group. So not necessarily your problem, but people tend to hate it. Another thing is that Anything that rubs on the mic, like a shirt or hoodie, are easily heard by other people. Overall it is a very nifty and unique piece that you will get complimented on. If you like trying new things out, try this one out.
