As many have noted, it took forever for this to be released; but now it's here. Have used it with a Yamaha electric piano, and it just works. There are almost no instructions, but all you do is plug the USB cable into your XBox (or USB hub, of course), and plug a MIDI cable from your instrument to the adapter. This has actually gotten me to start learning keyboards after many years of procrastination.Note that the adapter does not include a MIDI cable -- so be sure you have one.

Pros:Work seamlessly with the Roland TD9-SX. I was able to customize the Midi assignments (via the Roland) to use multiple cymbals. Much better trigger response that the ION drum rocker!I Highly recommend it!Cons (all minor):No "chat" headset connection. no wireless connection, doesn't come with a Midi cable and the instruction were fairly vague.

This works exactly like it's supposed to and is easy to connect. The bad news is that it is hard to find. If you have a midi compatible keyboard or guitar and really enjoy rockband then get it if you can find it.

4 out of 5 stars Does what it's supposed to, nearly perfect

I bought this specifically to use it with an Alesis DM6 drum set, so I can't speak for its performance with other MIDI instruments, but for the most part this works great. There is no noticeable latency and it works as advertised. The only problem I've had is that it sometimes messes up detecting a yellow + green cymbal hit. It either drops one cymbal or the other, or incorrectly adds a tom hit. This seems to be a known issue. It also sometimes drops a tom when hitting two at once. Besides those issues, it works fine.

Plugged into my Roland TD-6V V-drums and it was basically plug and play! I get some crosstalk between pads but I think that's a drum frame thing and not an adapter thing.

5 out of 5 stars Midi Adapter + YouRock Guitar makes this a whole different game

With the untimely demise of the Fender guitar for RB3, I was stoked to learn that the YouRock Guitar (with the latest updated firmware) works as a MIDI controller for Rock Band Pro mode.Plugging this in and switching to Pro Guitar turns RB3 from a musical Simon-clone to a full music simulator. It's like going from Ridge Racer with a thumbpad to Gran Turismo 5 with a wheel and pedals. And RB3 has a complete guitar trainer too, which this combo of course fully supports.

5 out of 5 stars Yamaha DTXPress II with RB2 and RB3 (XBOX) - works perfectly.

I have a Yamaha DTXpress II and use this along with a standard MIDI cable and XBOX Rock Band 2 & 3, and it works great. The only thing you have to do when using RB2 is swap the crash cymbals as they're mapped "backwards" - simplest way to do it is to just swap the cords (as opposed to re-mapping in the head unit).Much more satisfying than playing along with the stock Rock Band drumset.

5 out of 5 stars Works with many MIDI keyboards and then some

I've tested this device with the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 3 along with three different midi keyboards, including a Wii Rock Band Keyboard, and they all work flawlessly. With a switch on the adapter, the game recognizes what instrument you plan to use for Rock Band 3, and the adapter translates all MIDI notes played into an acceptable note in the game. In the case of the keyboard, which was all I had to test, the game looks for some two octave range to play on, so keeping the default octave range on the midi keyboard is necessary. As for the "whammy", I only recognized the touch strip on my Wii Keyboard as a probable control for modulation, but I had to hold the overdrive button on my keyboard to use the touch strip which was a little bothersome. An overdrive button is included on the adapter, and it also comes with a belt clip, so playing the keyboard with the adapter hooked on my belt was comfortable...if the usb cord was long enough. If you plan to play in a theater or far away from the TV, make sure you get some usb extension cables. Don't worry about the required MIDI cable; you only need enough depending on the length from the instrument to your other hand to access the adapter's overdrive button, so get the smallest Male to Male MIDI cable you can find.As for those controls on the adapter, they're needed to navigate within the Xbox menu and throughout the Rock Band menus. In addition, the Xbox treats the adapter as a wired Xbox controller without triggers, bumpers, or analog sticks. I was able to get away playing a few Xbox Live Arcade titles which did not require those features (and not many do), so it's pretty versatile despite its primary goal being to emulate MIDI devices. If you have some sort of MIDI keyboard that is not officially for the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 3 and want to play with it in game, and if you're missing a simple Xbox 360 controller, this adapter is worthwhile, especially while the game's still alive and knocked down in price.
