Where to Buy Star Wars - Episode I - Racer

Description

Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer is, of course, a shameless tie-in game based on the Boonta Eve Pod Race scene from the movie. As a Star Wars title it's sure to get a lot of interest, but the question is: is it any fun to play? Yes, actually, it is. Racer differs from a normal racing game. Rather than merely steering your way around the track, you can enhance your turns by using the Z button on the controller. Holding down the button shifts the cockpit off to the side and kicks you sideways with a burst of extra speed. And of course, a big part of pod racing is the spectacular crashes, and here LucasArts does not disappoint. As Qui-Gon says, "Pod racing is very dangerous!" Even your opponents crash--sometimes into each other. The 3-D visuals and sound are good, but not groundbreaking. To forestall the inevitable boredom that all racing games eventually leave you with, the game lets you race on different planets, each with their own tracks. The tracks are inventive, especially in the later levels: some tracks have shortcuts to discover, others have zero-gravity sections and hair-raising jumps. The racing pods also differ, and with victory in certain races, more powerful craft become available. A pit area allows you to view all the weird designs up close in 3-D. In tournament mode, prize money is awarded for top finishers; you can use the cash to buy parts to upgrade your pod. It's a good thing the purse isn't paid out in Republic credits: Star Wars fans will recognize the parts dealer as none other than Watto. His wry comments spice up the shopping experience, and he sounds just like he did in the movie. Racer is a worthwhile purchase for fans of Star Wars or racing games. --Eric Fredrickson Pros: Imaginative tracks keep it interesting Watto's parts shop! Up to 2 players (each needs his or her own controller) Star Wars Cons: Basically a racing game, won't hold your interest forever Does not allow a 4-player option

5 out of 5 stars Great!

If you hate racing games you'll love Episode 1 Racer. I'm more into adventure games but I'm an avid Star Wars fan so when I saw this I knew I had to get it. The first time I rented it I was hooked. I loved the fast paced game play, the friction less environment and the different tracks that were so original. One of the many great features of this game is the two player game play. I've played this game for hours with my friends. The only thing not so great about this game is that it doesn't come with an expansion pak. With the expansion pak it makes a big difference. Also, when you play in two player mode the screen is kinda bright. I reccommend this game to anyone, especially Star Wars fans.

5 out of 5 stars This is the best racing game ever...

I was skeptical when I first played this game, but it tends to grow on you. There are a few levels which are extremly tough, but after a few hours you can get the hang of them. Watto's shop is a hoot, and the level of gameplay is excellent. By far a must have for Star Wars fans and racing fans alike! Be warned this product causes lack of sleep!

5 out of 5 stars My children love this game,it's challenging, yet fun.

This game is for more than one person player so it makes it fun for both my boys to race against each other or against the game. There is no violence in the game. It does help with eye hand coordination and is challenging to think quickly.

This fast paced thrill ride is an adventure for young and old alike. It is the most popular Nintento 64 video game in our home. The tournament style races allows a player to race and upgrade oveer twenty different vehicles to race on several race courses on 8 different worlds. The two player mode allows our family to race each other, increasing the bragging rights from intergalactic racing to our own home as to who is the best racer. To instructions are outlined clearly, and the joystick/button controls are logical. This simulation creates a fell like you are flying 3 feet off the ground against other opponents, but also makes the time fly by while you are piloting your pod to victory. Responsiveness of the video simulation is excellent, which makes this game a winner in our home. Try it and you will experience the trill of being an intergalactic pod racer for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars Pod-Racing as real as it gets!

I just love this game, I got it for my birthday and it's the bomb. You can earn levels in a tournament and you earn money (not real money) so you can buy parts to make your racer better. This time take my word for it... I'm a kid, and I know fun when I see it.

5 out of 5 stars Best Star Wars Game Ever

I can't say a enough about this game. The graphis are wonderful. It is very hard. It shows all the charcters in real life. It is like they are really walking. The pit droids are cool to. For all these reasons and a lot more this game is a have to buy.

3 out of 5 stars Good Game

This a great game if you enjoy racing games, however, that's all it is--a race game. It is basically the same as any other racing game.
