5 out of 5 stars Fantastic sim
An Amazon Shopper

This is an amazing simulator formula driving game. But it's rather "no frills", and a bit on the dry side. Even the graphics, while good, are just a bit dry and grey all the time. There is nothing here that is flashy; nothing here just for the wow-effect. There are no movie cut-scenes, even when you win the season. The only "real" game mode is career mode, and you are marched right through that in order with very few choices. So, what's the deal then? The deal is that the driving in this game is simply the best that has ever been done in a game. It's fantastic. I didn't realize how horrible my other driving games were for feedback, consistency, frame rate, and precision until I played F1 for a week straight, then tried to pop a few of my old favorite driving games back into the console. Wow. F1 spoiled me. F1 really IS that much better. It makes all your other driving games feel uncontrollable. (The other games still look better, though, and have lots of fun, flashy splashy graphics stuff going on and fun game modes...) If you are a serious driving fan, who enjoys precision driving down to the millimeter, F1 can't be beaten. If you enjoy circulating the same track for HOURS, just trying to shave a few tenths of a second off your time, F1 is totally your game, because you'll be doing that a lot. But if you hate being penalized for every tiny little error you do by track officials, and you'd rather slide your car around Bo Duke-style and play your racing games like a demolition derby, F1 is probably not your game. I like both styles of driving games; it just depends on my mood that day. :-) F1 is an amazing game for what it is. But it won't appeal to everyone.

4 out of 5 stars Fun game, works great with MS Xbox 360 Wireless Wheel
ijcast

F1 2010 is a great simulation-style racing game. If you're looking for power-ups, time extension bonuses, and crazy over-the-top tracks; look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a game that accurately represents the thrills of the F1 season and all the turns of each international track, then this is a good choice. I love how great this game feels with the Xbox 360 Wireless Racing Wheel. I've been playing Forza for the past few years, and this game feels even better with Microsoft's racing wheel. You can adjust the settings, but the defaults are suprisingly good. The "feel" of the handling is better than any other game I've played - and that's saying a lot since I own a lot of racing games.

5 out of 5 stars Codemasters delivers another great racing game!
Chris

I've been wanting a GOOD Formula 1 game on Xbox since I bought the system. Waiting forever for one. When I saw months back that there WAS one finally coming I was excited. Even more excited when I saw Codemasters was making it, because after playing their DiRT series... I knew it would be a very good game. It has surpassed my expectations. This is an awesome game, the graphics set a new bar, it looks incredibly real!Pros:-The graphics are fantastic, the cars look incredible, the tracks look incredible.-Total adrenaline rush... it's all about taking the right line. If you go to wide on a turn, you're in trouble. When you hit that fast series of left/rights at Silverstone at 160+ mph, or nail Eau Rouge at Spa perfectly, you'll know what I mean-Career mode is long and a LOT of fun. You start off with one of the new teams that isn't very competitive, and the better you do the better chance you have at getting a contract offer from a better team. I got an offer to drive for Red Bull during my 2nd season.Cons:-Some tracks just seem impossible to beat the AI. Monaco for example. It's a tough track, but even the times that I've taken every corner perfectly I'm still WAY slower than the top 10 cars. It's like they are impossible to beat on this track but other tracks very easy.Overall it's an awesome game well worth a look for anyone interested in racing games or Formula 1. You wont be disappointed that you bought it. It's appropriately challenging on all difficulty levels, and you wont wanna put it down.

3 out of 5 stars Fantastic gameplay, 5 Star game- if not for corrupted game saves
QUIZ KID

F1 2010 is an amazing racing game. The graphics are great, and the racing is fun. I won't ramble on about how great this game is because everyone knows that the game is great. The only problem I have about F1 2010 is a HUGE problem, and one that MANY people have been experienced. Players game save can be corrupted (erased). This occurs after completing an Research & Development objective in practice, if you retire to the paddock via the Engineer (in the garage); terminally damage your car and select retire to paddock; get disqualified and select retire to paddock. So after a practice session where you complete an R&D objective and unlock a new upgrade make sure you then load in to the following qualifying session before exiting the game. Unfortunately after the game save is corrupted, you will have to start the game from the very beginning, losing all of the save.So my best advice is to be careful. Codemasters is currently producing a patch to fix this problem, but who knows when this will be out.

5 out of 5 stars Only for F1 aficionados
Niko

I have only managed the start up process and a couple of laps but they were enough to blow me away! I have the MC2 sports wheel and pedals which work with the game. This is definitely not a game for those seeking Mario Kart or other speeding games. You need to know and follow F1 passionately to enjoy this game.UPDATE 1: The more I get into it the better! It is one tough game but totally enthralling. I may have to invest in the wireless wheel and pedals at some point but will wait for better availability (currently 2 - 5 weeks) and improvement with my skills. Definitely only for F1 fanatics!

1 out of 5 stars Review of NCAA12 from the largest NCAA specific community forum
Travis7401

In the wake of Patch #2 for NCAA 12, the moderating staff and community at Utopia (the largest NCAA specific community forum) wish to express our displeasure and frustration in an open letter to EA and the so called "Game Changers" and "Community Sites." EA's NCAA football series served as the catalyst for this site in 2003, and though the Utopia community has evolved to the point that it is no longer centered on EA's game, we still have a common wish for a quality college football video game. This franchise was once unanimously recognized as one of the most enjoyable and innovative sports games on the market, but has now fallen to such depths that virtually everywhere you look, more and more people on forums all across the internet are expressing extreme frustration and displeasure with both the game and the company that makes it. We see three obvious factors that have contributed to the environment that allows such an abject failure of a video game to be released (with good reviews, no less); exclusivity limiting competition, EA's patching methodology, and the "Game Changers" marketing scheme which helps to fracture the community and marginalize legitimate concerns about the game.Problems caused by exclusivity:Due to the fact that EA has purchased the exclusive rights to the NFL and NCAA football games, they have effectively pushed out all competition from football gaming. This means that they can release bug-filled games without the risk of losing customers who would buy a more polished football game if one were available. One need look no further than the recent failure of EA's basketball game to see the effect of competition on sub-par and bug filled games. The Madden and NCAA series have been plagued with bugs similar to those that caused NBA Live to be shelved, but without competition the games will continue to be developed with as little effort as possible. The results of the lack of competition speak for themselves. The NCAA series has devolved to the point that gamers can expect even the heavily marketed new features to be completely non-functioning at launch. For instance, NCAA '09 touted a new roster share feature that was supposed to allow people to create custom rosters and easily share them with their friends. Unfortunately, the roster editor feature of the game contained a glitch so that once a certain number of players were edited, teams started completely disappearing from the game. On top of that, "Wide Open Gameplay" (the tagline for that year) translated into "No Defense At All", and the game quickly turned into a complete joke as it was nearly impossible to stop anybody on defense. On NCAA '10, the game was released with sliders that did not work (i.e. they had no impact on gameplay at all), with rosters that were clearly flawed, and with a new "run commit" feature that was so overpowered it virtually destroyed any gameplay balance (particularly for online play). NCAA 11 touted the new "locomotion system, which effectively broke zone defense, and new web based dynasty interfaces like the "Dynasty Wire," which turned out to be incredibly buggy (frequently crashed or displayed the wrong information) and is still listed as "Beta" on the website. This year, one of the most heavily marketed new features in NCAA12 was custom playbooks, something Utopians have been asking for since the feature was dropped with the move to next-gen systems. As many have come to expect from EA, the custom playbooks feature was completely broken at launch. It contained a glitch which would cause the playcall screen to go blank and would result in players standing around in a huddle over the football rather than lining up in the correct formation. In addition to the custom playbook glitch, the new custom conferences feature was also broken at launch, containing massive scheduling errors that rendered it unusable. In addition to problems with new features, there were also numerous instability problems that caused the game to freeze or crash, as well as several glitches that affected online dynasty mode, such as dynasties not being able to be advanced properly and wins not being correctly recorded. At this point, the game is so bug filled that you are lucky to finish a game without a crash or disconnection. Even if you do finish the game, the result may have been recorded incorrectly, making your efforts futile. It is like clockwork; every new feature will be completely broken at launch and features that worked in the past will have new and crippling bugs.We acknowledge that all video games are released with some bugs, but we feel that the lack of competition due to exclusivity has allowed EA to release football games that have more numerous and game-killing bugs than any other title. NCAA12 is the least stable console game that we have ever played. If EA had true competition in the football gaming world, they would be forced to either shelve the game, like NBA Live, or go back to the drawing board and dedicate more resources to releasing a quality game, like the FIFA series.Problems Caused by EA's Patching Methodology:In general, the ability to patch games has been both a blessing and a curse for gamers. While a good patch can save a game that would be otherwise derailed by a small bug, it also allows developers to release games that are basically unfinished, counting on patches to tie up all the loose ends. Nowhere is this practice more prevalent than in sports games, with their rushed yearly development cycle. With the NCAA series, EA manages to take the "release an incomplete game and patch it" model to an incredible new low. Not only do they release obviously unfinished games, but in an effort to patch problems, they introduce new and bigger problems. For instance, last year EA released a patch that was supposed to address some problems with defensive AI and overpowered man to man coverage, and it instead resulted in a new glitch were the QB could pump fake backwards (towards his own goal line), and cause all of the defenders to immediately abandon their assignments and run towards the line of scrimmage. While there is a long, well documented history of these issues, NCAA12 has taken things to a completely different level. This year, after waiting for nearly two months, EA released a patch that was supposed to correct some of the problems with custom playbooks, online dynasties and system stability. Producer Ben Haumiller closed his blog about the title 2 update with "Thank you again for your patience for the arrival of this second Title Update. I trust you will find that it has been well worth the wait." To put it bluntly, Ben, It was not "worth the wait." The patch not only failed to fix the majority of the problems it claimed to fix, but it also caused new problems that affected the no-huddle (a prominent feature for NCAA 11) , completely removed some formations from the game, and caused a host of new issues with the few custom playbooks and online dynasties that had the good fortune to work before the patch. Not only did EA release an extremely flawed product for sale at retail in July, but it took almost 2 months to release a patch, and the patch turned out to cause numerous new problems. At this point, it is obvious that the development team for NCAA football cannot even patch their own game without introducing a cornucopia of new glitches and bugs.Problems caused by EA hijacking "The Community."Over the past few years EA has gone to great lengths to improve their faltering reputation with "The NCAA Community." Whether it came in the form of sending EA representatives to forums, the "Community Leaders" program, or the Game Changers" program; EA has shown that they value having a positive image in "The NCAA Community." While this all sounds great, we find their efforts to be entirely disingenuous. Before they even try to reach out to "The NCAA Community," EA attempts to define "The NCAA Community" in a way that eliminates those who are openly critical of their product. For instance, Utopia is notably absent from EA's list of "Community Sites," despite the fact that we are the largest NCAA specific community. The only interaction we've had with EA this year was a Cease and Desist letter in response to our April Fool's prank, proving that they not only read the site, but they also did not find our prank nearly as funny as we did (in retrospect, our April Fools descriptions of the game were actually far more accurate than the glowing reviews found on other sites). We acknowledge that EA attempts to avoid interaction with us because we are uncouth, drunk, and/or overly hostile; but that doesn't mean we aren't part of the community! We also aren't the only ones to be excluded from EA's community program. Several other critical community members, including those who belong to TheSimStandard YouTube group (many of whom have provided incredibly detailed documentation to show problems with the game and ways to solve them) are also shunned by EA. This, despite the fact that they reach far more people than many of the "Community" sites that are included. For example, videos uploaded by TheSimStandard channel contributors have combined for a total of 713,955 views and they have well over 20,000 subscribers, while several of the sites that are included in the program appear to reach fewer than 100 members and are rarely updated with new NCAA related content. The simple fact is that EA has systematically worked to prevent anybody who is openly critical of their game from receiving any official recognition for their efforts. Instead, they choose to define "The community" as those sites, regardless of size/exposure, who will toe the EA company line. The "Game Changers" program, much like the "Community Leaders" program before it, is a complete farce. As much as EA talks about incorporating community feedback into the game, it is increasingly evident that EA does nothing of the sort, and these programs are simply an extension of EA's marketing strategy. Simply put, we do not see any substantial in-game results from the "Game Changers" program, but we do consistently see a ton of pre-release hype along with glowing reviews. To be fair, we do not fault the "Game Changers" in this. We truly believe that most of them have the best intentions and that they have put in a lot of work attempting to make this a better game. The problem lies entirely in the fact that EA simply can't (or won't) make most of the changes suggested by the "Game Changers." The game engine itself is so archaic, bug-filled, and ad-hoc at this point that most of the common and recurring issues cannot be solved without a significant commitment of resources from EA, which is a commitment they won't make. Instead, EA will take input from the game changers and promise grandiose changes like "Custom Playbooks" and "Pattern Matching Coverage," while the actual implementation of those "features" will be nothing but ham-fisted tweaks to an aging game.Beyond being simply ineffective, we believe that the "Game Changers" and other EA sponsored "Community" programs fracture the true gaming community and create a divisive environment that allows EA to release such buggy games without the proper amount of community outcry. This is due to the fact that EA places the "Game Changers" in the unenviable position of answering to angry gamers for all of EA's fumbles. These "Game Changers" serve as the only link between the average frustrated gamer and the NCAA football developers. They become de-facto customer service representatives, without the paycheck. The frustrated gamers and the frustrated "Game Changers," who now must put up with misguided personal attacks, end up divided. Instead of directing the frustrations and anger at the proper target, the community bickers between themselves. We are therefore extending an olive branch to the "Game Changers." We don't hate you, we just lash out in frustration because EA has forced you to play customer service representative for a terrible product. We even apologize for directing our anger and frustrations at you, when EA is clearly the culprit. Please join us in calling EA out for the incredible levels of failure that are present in NCAA12 and Patch #2.Signed-The Utopia moderating staff and frustrated NCAA gamers elsewhere Read more ›

3 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Black

I have been a fan of NCAA football since the beginning of time, and I was actually excited for this game to come out to see the new improvements made. I liked some of the improvements made such as the new coaching carousel in the dynasty mode and the fact that you can play your whole senior season in the Road to Glory mode. But The AI on the game is unrealistic and running the ball on the Dynasty mode is WAYYYYYYYYYYY to unrealistic, I play on Heisman and everytime either I run the ball or the computer runs the ball its a big play. I have never seen a real college football game where everytime a player runs the ball he breaks a 60 yard run or something of that nature. And the reason why this happens is because when they break these big plays the o-line knocks everyone to the ground thats in front of them which is also unrealistic, I had 1500 yds by game 6 and I was using Michigan and Im a past first type of player, thats RIDICULOUS. There are so many times i have over 200 yds by halftime thats so unheard of. Secondly I hate how the LBs can jump and knock everything down when the pass is supposed to go 25 yds down the fields, there is no way they jump that high to knock passes down, but wont let the manual player's LBs do the same thing. There is no defense to stop the computer from breakin a big run each possession with the ball whether its man or zone, and alot of my friends who have the game complain of the same thing its TERRIBLY unrealistic, NCAA 11 was better off with the running than this yrs copy. Wasnt worse the 60 dollars and EA sports needs to correct the problems. Plus they need to bring Lee Corso back and change up the commentary from yrs past.

4 out of 5 stars Solid Showing, but not much that's new
Michael

You've probably read better reviews elsewhere, but, nevertheless:NCAA '12 is a solid game, through and through, but it doesn't introduce very many new exciting "back of the box features," though it does improve on the core gameplay, Dynasty, and Road to Glory modes from NCAA '11. Without a doubt, the game is MUCH better "shipped" than NCAA '11 was -- which had recruiting glitches, tuner necessities, patches, and all sorts of stuff before it even became playable. NCAA '12 is solid out of the box.The changes to Dynasty mode are appreciated, mostly, the Coaching Carousel enhancement which really let's you live out as a certain type of coach -- working your way up from a coordinator where you only control half of the on-field action, all the way to a head coach. The mode isn't completely flushed out, but it's fun and rewarded, with a 'goal oriented' design that rewards you not just for long term success, but for small in-season successes. Perhaps next year it can be improved with micro-enhancements within each game, like rewarding your team for playing with good sportsmanship, spreading the ball around, or bringing in other players into the offense. Additionally, full conference editing is a great addition, which will allow history junkies to recreate conferences and matchups from year's past, or replicate future changes. Conveniently, this also allows for better custom team integration.Other than that, Dynasty mode hasn't dramatically changed, which isn't a bad thing -- NCAA 11's dynasty mode was the most addictive that the series has ever had.Road to Glory is fine, but still lame... it's not "Road to the Show," from MLB The Show series, but it's not bad either. It takes very little work to quickly become the best at your position, and so the challenge really isn't there, but at the same time, you never quite feel like you're "grinding" like you do in the expansive, but tedious, Road to the Show.Unfortunately, some modes got completely left out. Online play is identical, Online Dynasty is relatively unchanged except for the additions made to offline -- and the only new additions to online dynasty itself are either locked until August 1st (lame?) or sit behind a pay wall, which is similarly lame. Adding new features but making you pay small amounts for them is really not okay, because consumers are still paying $60 each year -- it's not like we're only paying $4 here and there for new features like Coaching Carousel, and not paying ~$50 for the features that remain the same from NCAA '11. I'd appreciate it if EA thought about this mentality more: IF they're going to charge additionally (on top of the $60) for "enhancements" and "new features," then it would be consistent for them to NOT charge for the features that stay the same. I understand they're trying to maximize profits in unique ways, especially in a down economy, but, c'mon, stop nickle and dimming the hardcore customers. To casual players, gameplay won't feel changed, but to those who have played these games a lot, you'll notice key differences. A new tackling engine removes suction tackling, which is a great addition that pays immediate dividends for the game: The game feels more organic than it ever has, which is really nice. Still, this engine makes for a few new 'skating' animations, where players see a burst of speed breaking free from a tackle. It's not the end of the world, but it's noticeable occasionally. Other than the tackling, the defense has been balanced so you'll need to mix up zone and man coverage, as opposed to NCAA '11 where zone coverage was completely useless, so you could play a Cover 2 for the entire game. Zone coverage works and it's refreshing. The defensive line pressure is effective, the most effective perhaps in the history of Tiburon-engine football games, so you see far more d-line sacks, which is really refreshing. Offense hasn't wholly changed, but everything feels good... QB's aren't as accurate, but at the same time, DBs don't mirror routes anymore.Playcalling is still EA's broken playcall philosophy where the CPU has psychic abilities to read your plays, and then randomly chooses their play based off of what you pick. This is still obvious in any fake situation, any goal line run or pass, and any situation where you're trying to 'trick' the CPU with a clever playcall. It's all psychic playcalling with built in randomized "mistake" generators, which is lame. But, this is par for the course with EA games and if it's never bothered you before, it won't bother you now.Graphics are excellent. This is the best looking football game ever, probably. Improvements to grass, replies, presentation, and everything else, are much appreciated. The sound is, still, terrible. Stadiums sound good, crowds are nice although mostly unchanged, but the commentary is the same that it has been since the PS2 era, and it's basically identical to what it was last year. The same canned remarks, the same lousy analysis of plays, the same things you've come to hear thousands of times. If you've never played one of these games, you'd think that the commentary is fresh and great. But if you've played any NCAA Football game in the last 5 years, you'll hear lines recorded from 5+ years ago just recycled ad nauseam.I'm hitting some negatives in this review, but honestly, the game is an improvement over NCAA '11, which was the best NCAA Football game -- perhaps -- ever released, and the best football game from last year. It's still an EA engine game and it's still got some of the same frustrations that have plagued these games, but really, its an improvement on an already solid product, and so if you've liked these games before, you'll still really like NCAA Football '12. 5 out of 5 stars Well worth the wait!
Jonathan Toon

For fans of the original Deus Ex, Deus Ex: Invisible War was a big letdown. Although the game in itself was good, there was no way it would hold up to the richness that Deus Ex brought to the PC in 2000. So, how would Deus Ex: Human Revolution hold up the vast amount of hype surrounding its four-year creation?First, to answer to one of the only real complaints I've heard from gamers: lack of multiplayer functionality. One must realize that the Deus Ex series was never intended to be a multiplayer series. One of my biggest complaints about games that are created more so for multiplayer than solo is that so much work is put into the multiplayer features that the solo aspect of the game becomes mediocre, if not pathetic. In my opinion, this has plagued many games, from the Halo series to most of the Call of Duty games. People don't buy these to play the one-player scenario tract; people buy these games so they can get online and challenge other people that own the game. If the solo aspect of the game was altogether eliminated and the multiplayer option was all that was left, people wouldn't care. Games that are RPG-based, such as Deus Ex, Final Fantasy, Star Ocean, etc., are designed to be a single-player game. They pour everything into the story, the music, character development, and gameplay. That is why I applaud the creators of Deus Ex Human Revolution for not creating a multipleyer option. It would run counter to previous titles in the series, plus I honestly don't see how turning Deus Ex into a simple deathmatch would make the game better. If I want a simple deathmatch game, I'll play Call of Duty over Xbox Live. Now, back to the game itself. I feel the game has held up to the hype. While not the most graphically beautiful game in the world, the game does a great job of creating a cyberpunk atmosphere that perfectly suites the game. As another review said, the game almost feels like being in the world from Blade Runner. The music has enough comparisons to the previous Deus Ex games, while keeping itself unique. The voice acting is well-done. Normally during games with voice-acting, I would read the words on the bottom and skip ahead if I got done before they stopped talking. With Human Revolution, I listen to the conversation and ignore the subtitles completely. Facial movements and tones of voice do a great job of portraying the speakers state of mind.I love the gameplay. The limited inventory size was carried over from the previous game, although you can now increase the size through augmentation. This causes you to have to be selective on what weapons you take, which you discard, and what additional items you carry. Granted, the limited ammo found in the game might upset others that are used to having unlimited or almost-unlimited ammo capacity, I think this causes you to be careful on ammo usage, be as precise as possible on firing, and causing you to be more stealthy and use take-downs on enemies, rather than simply unloading a clip into them. While I don't expect the replay value to be high, Deus Ex Human Revolution is a game that I would want to play through again. There are many things that will be missed the first time through. I've never grown tired of playing through the original Deus Ex, even though I've beaten it over a dozen times. I would strongly recommend Deus Ex Human Revolution to anyone that looks for a good story within a game. You'll find yourself immersed into their world and you'll lose track of time very quickly. If you're one that spends most of your time playing multiplayer games, I wouldn't recommend this. Odds are you might lose interest in the story rather quickly, plus the lack of ammo will drive you insane when compared to games like Halo where you have almost unlimited ammo to work with. Top game of the year candidate. Read more ›

5 out of 5 stars A Tactical Shooter for Smart People
Poisoned Blade

If you aren't familiar with the series, think Metal Gear meets Mass Effect. This is a very tactical stealth based shooter with a complex story. Some people will nominate this as a Game of the Year Contender, while the run and gun crowd may be turned off by the deliberate pacing of the game.Concept: 9/10Set in a dark and not so distant future, where human beings are getting cybernetic implants, you play as Adam Jensen, an Ex-SWAT operative with a mysterious past, and you're on a corporate backed espionage mission to uncover a vile plot to alter the course of humanity. Armed with the latest in Cybernetic Stealth Technology and an arsenal of weapons, you travel the world to expose corporate and government corruption.Story: 10/10!!!This is one of the best stories that I've ever seen in a game! Without spoiling anything it is about the boundaries between freedom and anarchy, and the limits that should or should not be placed on technology. The story is complex, so you will have to pay close attention. The story is told through cutscenes, cinematics, in game dialogue, and if you hack computers in the game, there's even more information backing the story. It is truly immersive and will make you think. Your actions will determine which ending you get, so it is crucial that you pay attention.Gameplay: 8/10As you play through the game, you earn PRAXIS POINTS, which you use to upgrade your character. There are loads of upgrades to choose from and they will all affect the style of your gameplay. Some upgrades enhance your stealth, like silent movement, more info on enemies' behavior, or temporary invisibility. Some enhance your strength, like the ability to wield heavy weapons with no recoil or bursting through walls like the old Cool-Aid guy. Other implants enhance your shooting, your vision, your radar, your armor, resistance to special damage attacks, close range combat, and hacking. The game is basically 4 HUBS with a few load screens breaking them up. There are main quests (which drive the story) and side quests (which supply additional info to the story and allow you to gain extra XP.) When you Accept a Quest, important info shows up on your HUD. The majority of quests deal with you infiltrating areas protected by armed guards. This is where the game shines. It is up to you how you complete the quests. You can sneak past enemies and use a tranquilizer rifle to knock them out. You can use a heavy machine gun to mow them down. You can use sniper weapons and hack computer systems to turn off security systems or even turn them on your enemies. When you get to the end, there is usually a multiple choice conversation you have with your contact that will affect the story and give you an XP bonus. The save points are generous and you usually have the ability to load the last 2 auto-saves or any of your (up to 20) manual save points.Weapons: 9/10There is an excellent selection of modifiable weapons in the game. Tranq Gun, Combat Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Plasma Gun, Laser Gun, Shotgun, Pistol, Revolver, Rocket Launcher, AOE Stun Gun, Normal Stun Gun, Mines, Grenades, etc... The weapon choices really allow you to customize the game to your style of play. Put landmines by a door, then trigger the alarm to blow up your enemies. Bribe an NPC and then hit him with a stun gun to get your money back. You can pretty much do anything that you can imagine with this arsenal at your disposal.Haxx0rZing!!1: 8/10If you choose the route of Hacker, there is a FUN mini-game that you play in realtime, where you try to take over terminals on a network and reach your goal. The terminals are connected by paths and there is a starting point and an ending point with multiple paths. Each terminal has a % chance that you will be discovered. If you are not discovered, you can move from terminal to terminal and hack the computer, gain XP, information, and sometimes access to the enemy's security systems. If you are discovered, a counter appears and you have that much time to get to the end goal. You also have countermeasures at your disposal to show down the Network. (Nuke allows you to access 1 terminal without fear of detection, Worm gives pauses the countdown for 5 seconds if you are discovered, and Fortify slows down the enemy Network when they reach terminals.) If you are discovered, the system is locked down for 30 seconds and enemies usually are set on alert.Bosses: 6/10The low point of the game are the Boss Battles. In a game where you specialize your character for infiltration, the worst situation you can find yourself in is a small arena against a super soldier that can insta-kill you. Fortunately, there are only a few of these. When you play, keep this in mind, and bulk up your armor. I died on the first boss 4 times, even though I sniped him in his helmet-less head 3 times and blew up an exploding barrel next to him. I eventually beat the first boss by hiding. He threw a trio of grenades, and they all bounced off walls, back at him. The boss fights would have been much better if the boss chased you through an area where you had to be stealthy. Then you could use your infiltration skills in the fight. All of the Boss fights are arena battles. Grenades, Armor, Heavy Weapons, the Typhoon, and health powerups will all aid you.Graphics: 8/10The world is dark and... shiny. It's not the best looking game, but it delivers on atmosphere. The futuristic visions of New Detroit, China, and Montreal are interesting. The characters are well animated and the enemies are nicely defined so you can tell the difference between a light armored, medium armored, and heavily armored guy. (Except for the helmetless first boss who shrugs off head shots with a high powered sniper rifle... sigh)Sound: 7/10The music is very cool and the sound effects highten the suspense and punctuate the action. There isn't anything that you'd download from itunes though. I also have to knock the game for using slang from 1995. "I heard someone jettin'", "Fly Girl", and "I gotsta get back to my crib, cholo." *Cringe*Replay Value: 8/10There is no multiplayer, but you can replay the single player campaign using different tactics. Play through once as a stealthy hacker. Try again as an armored terminator who can burst through walls. There are also 2 achievements that you can try: Complete the game without killing anyone (gas grenades, stun guns, KO moves...) and Complete the game without setting off any alarms.Maturity: Older TeensThe plot is complex and there is violence and swearing. This is more of a political intrigue story, so the "I just wanna kill bad guys" crowd might be a little overwhelmed.Overall: 9/10This is a Great Tactical Shooter that will take you 15-30 hours to finish. It's a full on RPG with excellent user friendly stealth / combat elements. The story is outstanding, especially if you have been keeping up with what is going on with our current government.Buy it if you love the Deus Ex series.Buy it if you love Stealth Action RPG's.Buy it if you love Stealth Games or Tactical Shooters like Metal Gear of the Tom Clancy Games.Buy it if you love a good government conspiracy story.Rent it if you can finish an RPG fast.Avoid it if you wanna feel like Rambo and gun down hordes of bad guys. You won't last very long if you abandon the tactics. It's like playing Halo with No Shield. Read more ›

5 out of 5 stars The Revolution Begins..Will You Be Part of It?...
Jason

The original Deus Ex(DX) hit the market back in 2000 and with its combination of a Cyberpunk atmosphere and fusion of RPG and FPS elements, became a hit title that eventually won game of the year amongst many other awards. The game was ahead of its time in a way, similar to how Blade Runner (the movie) was ahead of its time for back in the 1980's. With this new release, DX: HR, does the game fall into mediocrity or does DX continue to be a a beautiful melody of various gameplays in an immerse environment?.... A few technical details aside, I would say this game easily marks a new generation in the Deus Ex line and could just be one of the best SP based campaign game released in 2011.GAMEPLAYAnd a whole lot of it! This game is massive and the cyberpunk vision of the future is captured beautifully. DX:HR I feel, tends to be a blend of FPS meets Stealth meets Espionage meets Social. You play as Adam Jensen who is a security officer for an Augmentation company. After an attack leaves him so badly wounded he needs heavy body augmentation the game begins. Who plotted the attack? Why? Terrorism? Self-Sabotage? The conspiracy runs deep and it is your job to figure out it! At your disposal is a very immerse and game changing set of mechanics that shapes how you play the game, yet adapts to your play-style. Need to get to the 5th floor and hack a terminal.. no problem go in guns blazing...or maybe stealth past the guards taking them out one at a time... or maybe break in through a vent system...or combine all 3! Not only can you approach objectives and quests from various methods, but there often are quite a few options available to you. You don't always need to take that grate on the left. You could hack the janitor's closet and steal the keycard and just walk right in on the objective. Maybe there is a guard wandering who has a keycard also, or someone wrote it in an email message that you found when hacking terminals. The variety is just huge and never gets old! To top it all off you can upgrade Mr. Jensen to better suit your play-styleAs you complete objectives, side quests, or basically do anything you gain XP. Shoot a mob you get XP, stealth him instead XP, Avoid combat all together get XP! Hacking amounts to bonus XP as hacking is more of a mini-game than a mandatory tool in this game, but I found it worth my time to hack. It was fun and provided some interesting bits of information that paid off in the long run. Anyhow, the XP you gain is used to level up Jensen, and as you level you gain the ability to further boost the level of mods you have. What is so beautiful about this the upgrades compliment your play-style. You are not forced to pick upgrades you do not want, however I rarely found that I picked something that felt like a waste. It is a solid system that gives you the freedom to play as you want for the most part.GRAPHICSDeus Ex: Human Revolution is not the flashiest of games. It isn't the latest and greatest game engine that might choke your PS3/360 or stress your video card until it explodes. The game still looks very good though. It captures a cyberpunk / blade runner style atmosphere very well and uses a darker color pallet which makes for a slightly darker vision of the future. Character animations can seem a little stiff or awkward at times, but do remember people are walking around with augmentations so the body movements might seem a bit unnatural for a reason. On the PS3 version the Frame-rate dropped from time to time, especially during one or two intense cut-scenes but it wasn't that bad. There was similar frame-rate issues on the 360 but occurring in different areas spots so the drop is probably relating to how the system is handling the engine itself. Graphically, the PS3 vs the 360 have differences but not enough to sway me to one or the other. It really depends on what you are looking at, at the time you are comparing. Sometimes PS3 looked better, sometimes 360. PS3 lighting was better in some spots, yet the 360 had better coloring in others. In short... The Graphics, while not the best, are very good and despite the PS3 and 360 having some frame-rate issues, either system is a perfect option for this game; each boasting pros and cons over the other.SOUND/STORYThe music for this game is awesome! The style of music chosen fits the environment and setting of the game perfectly, going well with the cyberpunk theme. It helps immerse you into the game which is a big plus. Voice acting however is a sub-par as often the same voice actor played multiple characters and didn't even change their voice. You may even find multiple characters who say the same line of text. I'm not surprised by this though as the original Deus Ex had some of the Worst-yet best! voice acting of any game I played. .... Storyline wise, while I honestly have not completed the game at this point (the game is LONG!), the storyline is great! Everything you do has influences on the game, and the storyline is very deep and balanced. It is full of plot twists and surprises that had me hooked.REPLAY/LENGTHWhile this game lacks multiplayer, you are getting your $'s worth here. The game easily has 25+hrs of gameplay, more like 30-40 hrs if you factor in side quests and taking your time to really immerse yourself. Not only does this game boast a huge amount of varied gameplay, but I could easily see myself picking it up and doing it all over again! The variety in gameplay is just that amazing. You stealthed your way into the building for Mission 6, replay it and try going Rambo. You might find new items or bits of information, or even slightly influence events of that mission. Deus Ex reminds me a little of Mass Effect in this sense. Every new gameplay can be filled with little bits and pieces you may of missed, or simply did not see in a previous playthrough; plus there are multiple endings to this game which only tempt you to try alternative paths and methods.CONSNormally I integrate my Con's into each section, but Deus-Ex is the kind of game that you need to see the entire picture. The game can clock it easily +25hrs and has such a wide variety of elements to it things were bound to go wrong in some spots. This comes in the form of frame-rate problems(see graphics), boss encounters, and AI problems. Frame-rate has been covered but Boss Encounters were a disappointment simply because there is only one real way to fight them. RAMBO style! If you specialized in hacking that won't help you during the fight. The illusion of choice is removed here and you are forced into a play style you might not enjoy. This isn't a major problem but for someone who didn't specialize in guns, since the game is forgiving, it feels like bosses were rushed in rather than fully thought out. AI problems well, it was to be expected. Sometimes enemies just become stupid and forget you are there or have such obvious pathing it makes you wonder how they were even hired to be guards. Despite their AI problems however they seem to have eagle eye vision when it comes to accuracy with guns (which makes for a good challenge!)OVERALL ... 93% (9.3 / A)Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a product of its sums. Individually each part of the game, from the shooter, to the stealth to the social aspects 'could have' been done better. Instead each element was created specifically to balance the other and what you end up with is a game that has multiple play-styles, gameplay which caters to the needs of the player, immerse storyline and environment, and a wide variety of methods to tackle the problem; so much so alternative play-throughs are a must! DX: HR has technical issues, but when a single game can easily surpass 25-30hrs and contain such variety, a few problems might slip through the cracks or be inevitable. In the end, we have a beautiful game that will keep you glued to your PC, 360 or PS3. 2 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Marauder Shields

Pretty boring honestly. The game itself isnt that fun to play, it's ok but it's weak. The races are short for the most part and the driving is ok a camera stays focused on your car through turns which is cool but NO WAY this game is worth $60. BreakdownGraphics-9.5 awesome graphics but unfortunately this is the best part of the gameReplayability-4 there are challenges to unlock cars an other things but nothing majorPhysics (mechanics)- 2 it doesn't feel like you are driving the car, even when you choose the view to race from within the car there isn't even a steering wheel or nothing just looking at the road, this isn't the early 2000sLength- 1...maybe 5 hours tops?? Really?Enjoyment- 1 honestly it's pretty boring, it didn't make me want to play this game at allI love NFS, mostly the older ones but I did enjoy hot pursuit but this game just doesn't appealDo yourself a favor, RENT before you buy. Trust me you will understand why after you rent itOverall the game is just overall weak minus the beautiful graphics but thats it. If you are looking for a new game for xbox pick up Skyrim, Saints row 3, Battlefield 3, Mw3, Gears of War 3, Batman Arkham City, Sonic Generations even Forza 4, but not The Run. I'm not hating on this game it just doesn't being much too the table races too short an the little bit of excitement you'll have playing this game quickly vanishes.Hope this helps

4 out of 5 stars I'm glad I picked it up for less than $60
Cats Go Nyan

This game is good, but there are a lot of people I know will be disappointed with it. All the races seem the same, just on a different stretch of track. Personally, I don't mind because I can sit and play a game for hours, not caring whether I do good or bad, or what's even going on in the game. The graphics are very nice, and they used the "Frostbite 2" engine, for those who don't know, which was used for Battlefield 3. The actual story behind the game isn't bad as well.Overall, the game will keep you busy for at least one play through the game, and if you're interested, for some races online as well.EDIT: It feels like it's sort of moving away from what NFS used to be. As far as I've played the game, I haven't come across any "lap" type of races, it's all get from point A to point B in an expensive sports car. I miss the street/drag racing kind of thing.EDIT #2: I'm finding myself to rage quiting while playing this game quite a bit. It seems like there's always a car in the same lane that I can't see just over that hill. It seems like the obstacles in this game are too easy to predict. Once again, I miss the old street/drag racing type of style. This feels a lot more like a simulator than an arcade racer. [Edit: it seems they have have patched it since I originally posted the review. I don't run into those cars nearly as much anymore]

3 out of 5 stars A let down if you've played "NFS: Hot Pursuit"

After being extremely impressed with Hot Pursuit, I picked up this game thinking it would be a step up from that. Not true.Don't get me wrong, this is a great game. The graphics are fairly good and overall it's a fun game, but compared to previous NFS games, it's nothing to brag about. Ironically, the aspect of this game that's the most boring and tedious is the running part. At certain points in the game, the police will surround your car and you will be forced to run on foot. In order to jump fences and avoid getting caught, you have to hit certain buttons on the controller. Mess up, and you have to try it again. These feel more like cut-scenes with a little audience participation than any type of challenge. I can understand that the hope was to give the game a little variety so it's not strictly a racing game, but if that was their intent, they should have allowed the player to control where they run and where to hide. Also, NFS is known for having the police in the game. Sadly, the cops are only a small part of this game and many races won't even include them. This may not bother you, but if you're buying a game in the NFS series, chances are, you'll be missing that. The game does have a lot going for it. Visually the game looks good and the selection of cars is nice and grows as the game progresses. The storyline is a nice element in a racing game, but it's referenced so infrequently that you'll often forget about it. Plus, you goal in each leg of the race is usually to just progress a few spots, so you'll wonder why you needed the story at all.Overall, the game is still a lot of fun and I have a feeling that most of the negative reviews are from those who just expected more from the NFS series and were a little let down. But used for a few bucks, it might be worth it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Underated Racing Game
Adam W

This game is amazing. It has the feel of a great action movie. Before I bought this game, I was kind of skeptical because of some the mediocre reviews it had received. I decided to get it anyway and I am so happy I did. I think it is a must have for anybody who is a fan of arcade racing games.

3 out of 5 stars NFS: The Run of the Mill

EA is here again to bring another amazing Need for Speed game, or that's what they try to do here. Need for Speed: The Run at first glance seems to bring NFS fans what they've wanted for a while, which is going back to the roots with awesome action-racing and an awesome storyline. And with it being developed by Black Box(Developers of Most Wanted) and using the all new frostbite 2 engine, makes it even more exiting. This game though, fails to do so in many ways and in the end just feels like a pretty mediocre racing game. This is not saying that this game is bad, it's just that the game could have been way more than it is.Story: The story is pretty bland. The idea is interesting, but the execution is off. So you have to race from California to New York. That's it. All the awesome conflicts that you think the driver would go through throughout the game are just not there. You think you would get a story like Fast and Furious, but you don't.Story 4/10Gameplay: The handling of the cars is more or less like the new nfs: Hot Pursuit. But way more bugged. Sometimes you dont even have to break when going 100mph at a u-turn. You just automatically drift through it. The AI aren't anything special and the awesome destruction events promised by the frostbite 2 engine just don't seem that exhilarating.Gameplay 6/10Graphics: The graphics of this game don't compete at all with other racing games like Forza 4. And with games like battlefield 3 using the frostbite 2 engine and having great graphics, you'd probably expect the same from this game.Graphics 7/10Sound: The sounds are okay. They sound like how they're supposed to sound.Sound 7/10Overall it's a 5/10. It's okay for a rent, but if your looking to buy something that will blow you away. Just RUN.
